TIE fighter??

Clues are leaking out of LucasArts that a Tie Fighter/X-Wing game may be in the works.
The original Tie Fighter was released back in 1994 and earned high-marks across the board. This was when LucasArts used to make great games, with every release a celebration. Ahh, the good old days.
Many gamers have been eagerly awaiting any sign that LucasArts' best franchise would be making a return for the latest generation of consoles. Such a hint emerged yesterday, when LucasArts' employment page posted an ad seeking "developers to work on an aerial combat game."
Now, I wouldn't necessarily call the original Tie Fighter and "aerial combat" game, but a space-combat game, so this may very well not be related to Tie Fighter at all. However, there's still room for plenty of excitement here, because there is a chance LucasArts may be revisiting another killer franchise, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe!
Or, this new, unannounced title could be nothing more than Yoda's Flying Adventures...
Let's hope for the best, shall we? |

LucasArts has a history in all three genres. In the '90s, the company's X-Wing series of Star Wars flight combat games were among the most popular such titles on the PC. While the publisher also has its Secret Weapons series of World War II-era dogfighting sims (Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe and Secret Weapons Over Normandy), the requirements listed for the aerial combat game position indicate that experience in the genre, "especially space-based shooters," is a plus. |
