The Sennheiser Ear Wax

So I'm comtemplating whether to purchase the Sennheiser HD 280 or not.

I've read reviews, did searches on this forum, but it seems that there are not much detailed insight to this model.

If anyone knows about this set, please post a reply. I'll gladly appreciate it.

Reason: I've a Sony 700s, Technics DJ1200a but I've heard so much about Sennheiser so i wanna try.

The figures for HD280 seems to have somewhat higher frequencies than others. Not an Audio Guru....

With a price drop of almost $ 120 US, I think it'll be money well spent. What say you?

Thanks in advance!

two words: BUY THEM

You won't regret it. I have a pair and it's the best purchase I've made under 100 for a looooooooooong time.

Seriously, these babies rock at everything. Where's gluegun these days?

He'll be able to give you all the technical stats or.....you could always search for the headphones thread, hah

I agree with magicsushi.

I, too, have a pair of Senn's HD-280 Pro's, and they are very very good. I see you have a pair of Sony MDR-V700DJ's - I have one of those too, before I got my Senn's. The HD-280's blow the Sony's out of the water in every single possible category in existence for headphones: sound, comfort, durability, quality, etc. etc.! Except for looks, the Sony's have that going for them.

The one thing that makes the Senn's absolutely must-have from a DJ perspective (as if the other factors weren't good enough) is that they isolate very very well! This means easier monitoring.

I highly recommend you get the HD-280's, especially if you will DJ with them. Try to see if you can personally buy a pair though, as there are some lemons in the line. Though the chances of getting one are very low. Just thought I'd point that out to you.

i have a pair and quite honestly, they suck for dj-ing... they're waaaaaaaay to quiet... sure they isolate a whole lot but in a high spl environment like a club, they will be easily overpowered by the club system... now for studio monitoring lets say, they're a must have... they're insanely accurate, the best headphones you could possibly buy...

I have to strongly recommend that you DO NOT BUY the HD-280 pros. I originally had a pair of sony MDR-V700s and then my dogs chewed through the cord and I had to get another pair. I too looked at lots of reviews here and elsewhere etc. I too chose to get the HD-280 pros, and I do not like them at all for mixing. For lower volumes, the headphones are very good, though at slightly high to loud volumes, they overload pretty badly, imo. They aren't the worst, but they clearly do not outperform the sony's! I think the sony's are much more comfortable and the 280 pros are very big and bulky (though decently light weight). The 280 pros look like hairy beasts too! The sony's are stylin'! The only neat feature about the senn's is that you can replace pretty much all of the parts if they break (good for chewing dogs ). If you are happy with the sony's then stick with them, because they are elite headphones for mixing. If you are not happy with them, then try the change, because it's obvious that some people DO like them. I think that it is much easiers to mix with the sony's though because the bass is stronger and has much less distortion (just look at the frequency range and THD stats on the headphones, though I don't know what dB level they measure THD at for the senns). The senns do reduce quite a bit of outside noise, but that won't much help if you are mixing in a club anyway.

lol? all these people slagging off the senns? Start a revolution soon, . Nah but seriously i've used them in a a live set, and i was using a 1000W RMS soundsystem and I had absolutely no probs with them, even mixing with the hardcore likes of the DuMonde beats .

But if you still got probs with them distorting at high dB's, maybe you should try a headfone amp.... thats what there for.

The HD280's are a hate em or love em set of headphones, aren't they? Well, no problem... the MDR-V6 is cheaper, and easier to drive, and not so bulky as the HD280. If you dont want to take the risk of getting a set of headphones that are POTENTIALLY better like the 280's, you could simply get some V6's...

I own the 280's too, and had heard the Sony V700DJ's...

The ONLY thing the Sony 700's have going for them is sheer loudness. But whatever sound that comes out of the Sonys is mediocre at best, even if the source is of true audiophile quality.

If the 280's don't work well enough for you, and you think the Sony MDR-V6's or MDR-7506's still don't have enough mid-bass to do the job well, then I'd have to recommend the expensive Sennheiser HD25's. They're loud - louder than even those Sony V700DJ's at any given volume-control setting - and their SQ completely (and utterly) blows away any of those mass-market headphones that masquerade as "DJ headphones."

I have never heard these cans, but i've heard lots about them, and i was thinking of buying some. I have heard that sony 700s are way overpriced.

good to see you back fire999.

I have senny HD 25 SP's and have to say they are impressive for their size. Powerful and so accurate. Only fault is the flex is a bit light weight, all my bouncing around can cause light weight flexes to break on the inside!

I wonder why I see all those DJs using Sony's MDR-V700 if they are that bad.
