Tech Trance Vocal Remix - need help

This is a remix I am working on for a friend of mine in which now I am suddenly not happy with the intro. I'm not really sure if its just me being over critical of my work or if it really needs fixing. This track has not been mixed yet and the transitions are kind of sudden because I haven't added in any FX yet. This is the first time I have ever worked with vocals so I do realize they are kind of off.

My main issue right now is that the drop after the break is high in energy and the the intro/build just seems to lack it. I just think I've gotten to that point where all I am doing is spending time being too critical of my work, and trying to add/tweak stuff to test the waters. I think I just need to get some outsiders perspectives. Maybe give me some ideas of what I can add?

Thanks a bunch - and I would be more then happy to check out some of your work as well and give feedback

Kick is .... off. Just kinda muddy and not appealing enough. Sounds like you're kicking your cabinet with your boot or something. Doesn't have enough punch or bottom end to it! The breakdown is very muddy, and that bass synth after the breakdown needs some work too, mainly EQ I think. I think the idea would flourish a lot more with proper mixing down and a better kick.

Heres my insight.
Great track idea, musician ship note placement all great. i understand its a work in progress but geez is it LOUD. try backing off a tad give the tracks some dynamics. Also the vocals pop out way to much for my personal taste i would compress them alittle more tame them up and then dig a nice hole in your mix around 1k in the eq and set them right there and let them occupy there own space. also it did sound alittle thin try doing some L/R eqing or something to that nature to widen the mix a bit to creat a massive space. your on the right path

I'd take your singers vowel sounds, like the Oooh's & Ahhh's and spread them out throughout your intro. Maybe you could add some delay and mix it in subtlety.

Definitely thought about doing that today... Now that I finally have a free moment in my life.. I can finally get around to being more creative with the vocals.

As far as the track being really unbalanced as far as mixing goes... My time is just limited on when I can have my Studio speakers on.. (I've had the police called on me multiple times).. So everything has pretty much been done on my crappy head phones I'm hoping a proper mix down and the addition of some White noise FX will help give this track life.

I completely agree about that kick... For some reason at first I thought it sounded good but after the break I took from this track I finally see how much its... well.. not fit for this track.

Thank you guys for your input.. my buddy played a recent version of this track at this small event he DJ'd at... and I could definitely see where I needed to fix things....

Now its time to get to work!

some of the best mixdowns ive ever done have been on headphones at really really really really LOW levels in volume. I dont know if your mixing at high volumes but when you do things get mushed because the way our ears perceive sound. try a very low level mix with only about 2 at most peaks 4 db of gain reduction to normalize your track while leaving dynamics intact
