Don't think about mastering.
Just focus on working on using your synths, and...

1) The composition stage and choosing sounds, and understanding arrangement.

2) Then worry about mixing.

3) Then worry about mastering.

That is the order of importance. #2 after you understand #1 and #3 comes after you understand #2.

I've never actually thought about it like that, but probably about seven or eight months. Mind you, my first sequencer was an Alesis HR-16 and my first song was absolutely atrocious.

My first track was absolutely horrible. But it took me 2 hours to do.

Probably a few days.

It is often difficult for me to say how long something really took, though, since many times I will recruit very old fragments I have written or sounds I have made as part of a new tune. Should I go by the age of the track's oldest component, or by when it all finally started coming together as a complete thing?

There were no computers when I made my first track, so I had to chisel it out of a giant piece of rock. Took me about 4 days.

Few months. Only had a computer for sequencing so took bait to learn verything.

Well, my first "tracks" were done in less than 2 hours. Then I had a phase where I worked on my tracks for a week or so, until I could call them ready. I was extremely motivated back then, when the world and the internet seemed so much smaller. That was when I was 15 or 16. Suddenly I became much more critical about my work, and admitted it was all pure shit. I haven't labeled any of my tracks "ready" or "done" since then.

I know all the logical thinking required in the past six months of my life may have put my musically creative side completely on ice, but nowadays I see little point in getting a track "done" or "ready". It just seems pretty pointless to me. Get it ready, put it on SoundCloud or some place. If you're lucky, you'll have some people patting you on the back saying your track only sucked so much balls. All in all, maybe 20 people heard your track. Worth spending most of your spare time.

I honestly wonder how most of you (who don't do this for a living) keep yourselves so well motivated. I guess I envy you.
