Where to put my monitors with respect to my other monitors?

I'm a little frustrated with my setup. I've been suggested different things, but here's the situation:

I have a rather wide desk - about 60" (1.5m). I just got a second 24" screen and I'd like it side by side with the first.

Currently, my two Mackie MR5's are on the desk at each end. As you can guess, this doesn't leave room for two 24" screens in a side by side configuration.

Fearing this day would come, I had gotten two monitor stands a while back, and so I widened the distance between the monitors and placed one on either side of the desk. Now the screens are side by side, but the studio monitors are 18" (.4m) further apart than they were.

The problem is, this has considerably widened my stereo image, and I'm not sure I like it much. I sit pretty close to the monitors, so widening them like this throws off the ideal equilateral configuration.

What, in your opinion, is the best thing to do here?

a) Pull the desk forward, place monitors behind and raise them up to point down at me. However, this way the tweeters won't be at ear level, not to mention potential reflections off the desk, etc.

b) Get a smaller desk. Or a studio desk. I'd rather not spend money to have to correct this, so I'm open to more creative ideas here too.

c) Monitors in a top bottom config. I've tried this, and I find that I end up not using the top as much since I hate having to look up (especially for long sessions).

d) STFU and get used to the wider image - It's not as big a problem as I think it is.
