Dress Code

This has probably come up b4, but when goin to a club/bar in bham one night, i was amazed to be stopped for wearing brown suade shoes, jeans and a T-Shirt. (not blue stonewash jeans either, but black denim)

I managed to blag my way through, but thats not the point, I mean i saw ppl there in DJ's, some f00kin club!

Anyone any experience in bham, coz its a strong uni choice, i wanna go back there again. What dress code are these places lookin at,

U got places like stoodi Bakers (and most opther places on broad street), what they expect to wear to these trendy bars, is smart dark denim fine? what about clubs like code (godskicthen), and what exactly is cyber dress code,

Any help appreciated from you old hands, coz these places are a step up from my home town

in my view theres 2 types of clubs, the "trendy" ones where you have to wear the exact fassion clothes to get in, and the fine clubs like godskitchen, where the dresscode is alot more relaxed, just dont expect to get into godskitchen wearin any designer lables

I hate intolerant attitudes like that. Godskitchen and Crasher being 'selective' in turning people away in shirts, and trendy clubs trying to be middle class when they're blatantly not.

Why can't everyone just be like Promise in Newcastle? They don't have this stuck up attitude about people in shirts and they don't try to be trendy either. Anyone gets in, there is literally no dresscode. Their only policy is 'no arseholes', and that's got nothing to do with what you're wearing but whether or not you're a prick.

IMO other clubs should move for that kind of tolerance

No, but I've heard that some clubs like Crasher and Gods can kick up a stink if you're wearing something with a label on or even the wrong kind of shoes. They don't specifically ask for cybers but can be paranoid if you look slightly formal. If you ask me that's just stuck up.

Do what Promise do; let anyone in, unless they're a ****. Promise let people in wearing shirts, they let cybers in, beerboys, you name it. But they behave themselves when they're in there because they've excluded the ****s

ok thanks for the info

I wasnt sure of dress code at places like code etc, coz I only been to the large events, not to the resident club, which have been more money making than reputation building i think, so dress code wasnt a prob, just your ticket

Thanks

come on guys.. I'm not originally from UK just been here for a while. UK clubs dresscode is way too relaxed compared to other countries.. half of the people I see here in clubs wouldnt have made it to the door if they were back home. there're places so damn lame that require a shirt..

with code there are strict and basic rules:

NO classics trainers
NO kickers or rockport (anything else is OK)
NO button down collars (you can unbutton them tho)

that is it, wierd but hey!

Dress codes are just an excuse to turn people away who they don't want in the club. Take anight at crasher, they've had 400 more people turn up than they can allow in so out comes the dress code. Or they spot a group who look a bit dodgy in the crowd, again they'll use the dresscode. How many times have you been turned away from a club for wearing trainers/whatever and then seen somebody wearing the same walk in?

In Newcastle if they get big crowds they just pile them in until condensations is raining from the ceiling.

Usually there's no need though.

I think Spad is probably right, but I still think that's pretty elitist for a nightclub. It's not that hard to turn people away if they are being an arsehole or look like one. Who they going to complain to? I think they should let anyone in, first come first served. If the ravers are that hardcore they should be there when it opens or stop complaining.
