fader replacement on mixer/circuit board question

I may get an old mixer that I want to fix up, it's super cheap Ecler Smac Pro 42

it's a little beat up, I have yet to test it before I buy it. Two faders are missing apparently(not just the knobs).

When replacing a fader, is it important to have the circuit board that comes with it?
Somehow I feel the board is usually just for having pins to connect. (soldering is no problem for me btw.)

there's nothing special about the faders in this mixer (vca and what not) so I don't think it's important

here's a picture I found of the fader

(somehow I feel I should know this as I used to work in electronics and have replaced pots and such more times than I can recall )

None of your images are working but I rememebr having to fix eclers when i worked in pro audio service. AFAIR, the faders had wires that terminated in to a little connector block and you just plugged that in to the receptacle. I am going from memory nearly 10 years ago though.

Ecler obviously do the replacement faders, but there was a company in the UK called Henley that made better quality after market replacements. They were also really cheap so it might be worth trying to track those down.

I wouldn't solder it on to the PCB, as if the faders ever go again you've got all that hassle again - it kind of defeats the point of user replaceable parts.
