In a nutshell, from what I understand is that the media companies want to hold search engines, website owners, and ISP's accountable for the links returned in search results and web pages if the remote link contains copyrighted content.


Ultimately, it is not their role to police the internet. This is a cheap attempt at making the internet in the USA look like China where censorship can be enabled quickly. Ohhhh this article contained a piece of information I did not give permission to publish...bam it needs to be blacked out from the internet.

Dear media companies....if you want to enforce your copyright rights...then do it yourself. Dont burden everyone to do it for you.

Not good. I have a feeling many of us will be sent to the US. Just look at Britain, they are shipping over one of their own citizens, because he was allowing people to access tv shows and what not.

If Google and others dislike what the US is planning. They should fire all their employees and move their servers somewhere else. So Google and all you larger corporations out there, please destroy the US economy. I know that is crazy, if the US goes down we go down, but that will be an eye opener we shouldn't have to be so connected to the US and rely on them.

I agree that stopping piracy is good, but SOPA is too broadly defined and gives far too much power to companies.

Basically, with SOPA how it stands now - any site that has user generated content. Either it be sites like Reddit, forums like Trance Addict, or even sites that allow comments can be put at risk. Even search engines would be greatly hampered, as if the results of a search result linked to a site that linked to a site that had an offending link - they are in trouble.

DMCA take-down notices are abused enough as is, and SOPA gives people even more power. But instead of removing the content in question, the site that has the content essentially gets censored from the internet.

With SOPA - Reddit could get served with a notice requiring them to basically censor any existing, and block any future post / link / comment to Megaupload - even if the link is not pointing to any infringing content. TranceAddict could get hit with the same notice - so all those sets that you like linking to for download from Megaupload? not possible any more. Google would get hit with the same thing - and you could no linger find megaupload links in your google search results.

While I can agree that there needs to be ways to better counter/stop piracy - SOPA is not the way to do it.

That's the problem with legislation like this. It is so big, bloated, and old fashioned, that work arounds will pop up very very quickly.

Unless you are going to be as coordinated as China, it won't work. Even with 'The Great Firewall of China', people get around it.

Original Recipe Yield 4 servings

Ingredients

1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 small onion, chopped
1 large clove garlic, coarsely chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 (7 ounce) package fideo pasta, uncooked
3 (14.5 ounce) cans chicken broth
freshly ground black pepper to taste
coarse salt to taste
1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro

Directions

-Place the tomatoes, onion, and garlic into a blender, and pulse several times to get the mixture moving; blend until smooth, 30 seconds to 1 minute.
-Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat, and stir in the pasta. Fry the pasta gently, stirring often, until the pasta is golden brown, 2 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
-Pour the tomato mixture into a large saucepan, and stir in chicken broth and noodles. Bring to a boil, and reduce heat to medium low; simmer until the noodles are tender, 7 to 8 minutes. Season to taste with salt and black pepper, and stir in the cilantro; simmer 2 more minutes to cook cilantro.
