Home-made cleaning Equipment

How do you guys clean your records and cartridges? I know there are a host of products in the market designed for these purposes, but I need to know how to improvise and DIY. Some of this stuff just costs too much!

For instance, I've heard of people wrapping a CD lens cloth around a styrofoam and using it to clean their records. Does this work? What kind of liquid should we use?

What about the needle on the cartridge? How do we clean that one?

Get yourself a bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol, AKA IPA. You should be able to buy this from a hardware store.

For cleaning your stylus, get an old mascara brush off your mum (clean it well first!) and dip it in the IPA. Then just brush the stylus with it, making sure you don't do it too hard and break the needle!

For cleaning your records, get an empty trigger spray gun, and dilute some IPA in it (about 10:1 water:IPA should do it) and spray it on the record. Then wipe the record with a soft cloth and dry it.
