Can't get my head around this percussion

So I've been trying to work on my percussion. Before just hammering on a bassline that takes up loads of space.

My percussion is a lot more rigid, than, say, this song by Prometheus:

I was wondering if anyone had any input to capture a driving, yet not so "house-y" percussion. I'd post examples of my stuff but it's pretty mediocre, nothing you wouldn't expect to hear so far.

I've been trying to figure out how to gel my percussion in a more psy-trance type fashion as you'd see in something like this, or older Hallucinogen stuff. Think Deranger: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tx4mPV6--Qk

Thanks for any input on stuff I might be able to try.

16 notes hardquantized with a velocity envelope where the weak points would be the first and 3rdbeat and the strong point on 2 4.

say the digits represent a velocity scaling.

to be honest, it sounds pretty fucking bad. But as a general rule, the hihat should lead to the backbeat ie 2 and 4.

Thanks Clooney. Any advice on the ambiance/effects?
I ask because it all sounds fairly gelled together.

If I try to put reverb/delay on that much stuff it ends up being a mess.

I'm after that 'messy/drenched in effects' yet tight (imo) sound.

One of the hardest things I'm finding to execute is creating a decent ambiance and sticking with it.
