What would you encourage me to do?...Try and beatmatch with both tracks playing in the headphones, or the second track in the headphones and the first track playing out loud? Which is easier?

Great vibes at wave house this afternoon, but not sure what dahlback played that cheesy god awful music after me, didnt even know i was on the same gig as these guys!! lol ... seriously what the hell is that sound!! eeeekkkk

Practice using both methods.

Some mixer have a nice cue/master volume knob where you can mix them nicely others however don't. Some have split cue some don't.

Basically if you only know how to mix using one technique you'll get caught out one day when you run into a mixer that's different.

I find playing both tracks easier compared to split cue. Personal preference.

Cue with both tracks in headphones. Start track 2, make sure it's synced, remove headphones, mix listening to the monitors/pa.

Its easy to get into the habit of relying on what the headphones tell you, and it's even easier to forget to set the x-fader to middle etc. in a dark dj booth. I can't tell you just how hard it sucks when you're nailing a 4 min transition just to realize that's only the first track is playing on the PA.

Get used to track in the headphone, track on the monitors. Nothing else.

If you play out, personally I find it next to impossible to discern two tracks in my headphones on a big system. If you can match off the monitors you can revert to any other method if you needed to (ie, no monitors).
