The Berlin Interior Authority has prohibited the Loveparade planned for July 14th. The parade which attracts over 1 million participants yearly, collided with an earlier registered demonstration by Loveparade opponents. This was shared Wednesday 04.04.01 by Interior Senator Eckart Werthebach (CDU Party).
Loveparade speaker Enric Nitzsche: "We are quite surprised about this decision".
In anticipation the Loveparade had already worked on a suggested route compromise: the parade could simultaneously begin in two places, at "Ernst-Reuter-Platz" and at "an der Urania". The paths would lead to the Siegessäule (Victory Column) as in every year. The opposition initiative could then demonstrate in the route section between Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate) and the Siegessäule.
This version would not only relieve the strain on the Tiergarten but also give the opposing demonstrators the already mentioned space of approximately 100,000 sq. meters. So from the side of the Loveparade, a coexistance between both demonstrations is a realistic possibility.
In Werthebach's opinion, this suggested alternative route is not a solution.
The opposition initiative called the motion for the new route inacceptable.
The organizers of the opposition demonstration also called the motion for the new route inacceptable. The initiative has 25,000 expected participants whereas last year a similar action brought the support of around a hundred people.

But there is hope:
-maybe the judge will decide the Love Parade will proceed
-The parade takes another route trough Berlin
-The event will move to 15th of july
-the event will move to 21th of july (at this date the anti-parade-people may not demonstrate)....

Ok, so that sucks that it's cancelled...but what makes u think that they just won't pack up & move to a new city that doesn't mind? There has to SOMEWHERE that they can go! I remember looking @ pictures of last years Love Parade and was amazed at the amount of people!

Fuck other cities. The LoveParade can't be held in an other city then Berlin. The LoveParade IS Berlin and Berlin IS the LoveParade. It has got to do with several things, like re-united people (Berlin because of the separated families and people during the Cold War) and being free and able to express yourself in ways you want to. Another aspect is the diversity of cultures able to party together.
Last year rumours were that the LoveParade had to move to Paris too, but finally it was still held in Berlin. Let's hope this will happen this year too.
By the way: The amazing amount of people you refered to, are about 1.5 milion people (not kidding !!! ). The LoveParade started 8 years ago (I think! ) with only 1 truck and 500 visitors. I think they can expect 2 milion people this year. Let's hope there will be a BERLIN LoveParade.

There's also a "loveparade" in Holland and Belgium, you got the FFWD Dance Parade in Amsterdam and the Street Parade in Luik, maybe this is a small comfort?
