Relax, relax. We're just asking a question.
We can't help but notice that trance has taken a back seat lately to other styles of EDM, most notably "big room, melodic" house and dubstep. A genre that grew during the late 90's and peaked in the 00's, trance may be falling victim to new tastes from a new generation of fans.
Many top trance DJ/producers have seen the shift and adjusted accordingly. Some might say they're growing as artists. Concert promoters seem to be booking less trance and gambling on rising house acts. Trendy music blogs feature the melodic, big room house and dubstep sounds young fans crave. When was the last time you saw a track by Mark Sherry or John Askew on besthousemusicblogever.com? More importantly, how many of you know who John Askew and Mark Sherry are?

While house and techno have been at the forefront of dance music since Frankie Knuckles (Chicago) and The Belleville Three (Detroit); Balearic/Ibiza trance definitely rose to the top. Guys like Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling, Judge Jules and Paul van Dyk were at the forefront. Of course, house and techno will always be staples of dance music.
Maybe in 20 years trance will be seen as, dare we say it, just a fad?
seriously enough with this crap, its been going back and forth for YEARS and the discussion never goes anywhere....

ouch. anyway - figured was espec appropriate for nyta since lately it's more like ny techno addict... not that i dislike techno by any means. carl cox was one of the best sets ive seen this year. just sayin
meh, just another article that's going to make everyone defend their niche genre pioneers, make fun of other "types" of edm, and completely disregard the fact that there's still great trance being put out and it's the simple fact that people are too lazy to find it. i'm constantly being surprised at the quality in songs you can find almost daily, but you don't hear anybody talking about them. sadly, if it's not spoon fed to the masses chances are that artist won't gain any attention.
case and point:
2.2k views, maybe a total of 5k with all rips included? everyone listens to their one favorite radio show, and are generally too lazy to look into the tracklist and find the tracks they enjoy. the only way you see these being spread is if it pops on their news feed from the artist they love on facebook and they feel it necessary to share. 20 tracks per episode of ASOT/TATW/GDJB, but hundreds of releases a week. oversaturation simply makes it harder to find the good ones, and thus gets individual artists far less exposure and tricks people into thinking one style is "dead"
tl;dr: there's great music being made for every little corner of the market, people just need to stop being too lazy to find it before saying it's dead - and then go and support it.

agreed. i think what im more getting at is the bookings aspect and why you cant find enough people to actually come out anymore. i guess i'm most interested right now in seeing the reviews + track list from ronski speed + stoneface & terminal

ahh well that definitely plays into what i said as well. not enough people finding said music, and in turn not enough buzz for promoters to bring these guys plus less people who want to come out for those artists because they simply don't know yet.
not gonna lie, trance could definitely use a popular blog or five ran by people who are actually digging to find good tracks - there's tons of them, and no giant interweb outlet that shares them regularly
if it's not on armada or anjunabeats, it won't break 5k youtube views with very few exceptions to that. we have ONE video with 12k views but that's because it caught fire on an unrelated internet forum. if i hadn't been an active member there, chances are it wouldn't break 1k

I haven't kept up with trance but having listened to those new trance tunes, except those on the top and the one SvD tune, I'd say its on the decline. You said it yourself that big room melodic sounds are the new trance. But music happens in cycles. I almost feel that most people that were into trance in the early days have moved on to other genres and the same may happen to newcomers. Hard to say if the true trance sound will ever come back.
All of these were released in the last several months, just gotta dig deeper -
Would love to see guys like Activa, Temple One, Sebastian Brandt, Manuel le Saux, Sundriver, Sneijder, Robert Nickson, J00F, Thomas Datt, Daniel Kandi, Ram, Joorn van Deynhoven etc.. with more gigs to represent
