So I have been reading some interesting info on frequencies lately and I have some questions.

1) i have read that the fundamental fq is the lowest tone with the greatest amplitude. Is this true? If so, what is the easiest way to remove it? I have been using my EQ which has an analyzer on it to visually see the lowest fq but there are all sorts of formulas to use and so I'm not sure if the I'm doing it is even correct. If anyone has advice or links to a good article or paper on it please link me.

2) by removing the fq in-between the fundamental and it's overtones is it better for clarity and room in the overal mix? I have tried doing this with my EQ but I'm not sure really on the technical aspects of what this does. Again info is welcome pls

Just take a high pass filter and keep sweeping it up until you think its taking away too much.(do this in the mix)

Bass and Kick don't usually have a high pass filter, but its common for everything else to have some kind of filtering out of the low end.

Try putting a high pass filter on every channel and just mess around with it to learn how it sounds.

Pretty much but not always. There are often times sounds where the fundamental is technically not present. Usually do to some sort of human interaction.

our brains will often fill in a missing fundamental if the expected partials are there. You can use this to your advantage by filtering out say content that is in the way of something else say the bass. I wouldn't really think of it in terms of taking out an actual frequency. This doesn't happen in the world. You basically take away a range of frequencies.

I would be careful tho. There is a bad habit of people in edm using too much and that can suck the life out of an element.

A way to to sort of do this in a much more detailed way is by using M/S techniques.

Forgt to add that if removing the fundamental is your goal while keeping as much else as you can, you will have to eq not just the fundamental but the harmonic partials as well because as I mentioned, leaving tem will keep the fundamental there even if it isn't there. Consecutive high q cuts with less attenuation on each successive harmonic. 1 cut won't do much, a high pass might get rid of partials you want to keep. Still, thinking about eq in terms of distinct single frequency is not really useful.

well ive heard people use the 2 interchangeably ie mid is what both channels share (mono), side is the difference (stereo)
