'pure' genre music vs. good music made with passion

I just received a (spam, unsolicited and unwanted) message from an uplifting trance label about a donation campaign to keep the label alive and saw some things in the video that get me.

I don't know much of anything about this label, though I have heard of it. Basically, it looks like they have been around all of 1-2 years and I don't recognize any of the releases or artists (not that that means anything but it isn't like they were on top of the world at one point or something).

The part that gets me is that the video, goes down the line of 'we didn't give into the trends and now we are declining because of our pureism'. Apart from the fact the label was started 1-2 years ago, meaning dubstep, electro and house had overtaken trance 5 years before they even started the label, I get tired of seeing that line of argument that somehow, purism in a genre is what is laudable.

First of all, I imagine uplifting trance itself was the fad of the day at one point. Meaning, there will be people bemoaning the decline of 'real music' pure electro for whatever comes along in 2-3 years just like they do uplifting trance.

Second, I don't think genre matters at all. The path to a good track in my opinion is giving your all and trying to make a worthwhile, still going to mean something in 20 years, track. I can tell a track someone made when they are depressed vs. the track you made to fill an album out. There is no major genre of music I cannot find a song I like. Even country. It is about whether or not the song is good and the person making it cared. Other than that, pureism and conforming to an extremely rigid set of boundaries for the rest of time seems like the last thing necessary to make good music.

Even though my username is tongue n cheek, I DO like some trance. I also like uplifting trance from time to time. But, I like 'Flaming June' 'Silence' 'Lift' ect, because they are beautiful songs, not because it is 'pure trance'.

One addition.

I understand having a favorite genre and wanting a place to go for it even when times and trends change. If you like something the way it is, whether it be coffee or music, you don't want it to be changed I see value in a label which continually supports that subculture and doesn't 'sell-out'. But still.

Due to some backlash (that is what happens when you spam people who have aren't fans) they in very dramatic fashion posted an addendum to the first video:

If people wanted to donate, they would buy their tracks(that they've liked). I might buy one :}

They're not disclosing how the donation money will be spread, is it being divided by all their roster? Unless I have missed something.

Catch-22, you shouldn't be doing this because you're not doing it through the proper avenues, but you got some nice music that needs to be released and appreciated the same way, because, after-all, its about the music right? That fact alone will not sell you shit, I guess its been proven by now. Hopefully im wrong at least a little bit, I do hope quality labels get what they deserve, but selling shit is another different ballgame that needs to be tackled as well. How are you going to expect any returns on your product if you have very little investment or none?
