Ellie Goulding "Lights" Remix (Brostep/TBU style) :)

So, I have been working on this song for a bit now and I think it is really starting to come together and wanted to get some feedback. The "brostep" section is not quite finished and some of the patches/their levels are unsatisfactory to me (the triplet one specifically). Please give me some feedback on work that needs to be done. Also, please follow me if you like what you hear!

Edit: sorry - didn't know how to embed until just now

Some cool ideas in here. I feel like it drags a little but you seem like you have some skills.

hey! Thanks for the feedback! I actually have been a bit worried about the length, at the end of the first verse, I'm actually about 3:40 into the song, but I don't think I'm going to do a second verse, so it should come out just around or over 5:00 which isn't too bad.

hate to be "that guy" but I'd really appreciate some feedback on this song. Trying to release it this weekend to get some good online publicity and I wanna know what EDM people think first.

I meant the vocal was dragged out, kind of stretched too slow.

I don't feel a forward motion to the song, or a good flow. Also, I don't see a good drop in this so far. Dubstep got to have a good drop. I assume it hasn't been mastered yet, but when it is, make sure there is plenty of compression to make it louder cause right now it is not 'loud' (in a compression sense) enough. A few mixing issues too. I can't tell specifically, but mixing is one of those things I can hear when it isn't right easier than when it is right.

I wouldn't sign it to be honest, however, I bet that you haven't been producing thaaat long yet. I hear potential and bet in a year or two you will be making pretty good tracks. Keep listening to reference tracks.

Hope it helps.

Yeah, I haven't added EQs to most things and only have a limiter on the master track set at -.01

I've only been doing sound design for about 2 months and only been using a Massive and FM8 for about 5 or 6 months.

Updated it quite a bit.

The ending was a joke - definitely not the direction the song is gonna take at all (who am I - Knife Party?). How do you guys think I could fill out the verse section I did? There's one brostep synth that is still too loud which I forgot to put the gater back on (right around 2:01 I believe). I also need a new kick sound. I love the snare sound I have but not a huge fan of the kick what do you guys think?

no kick , no bass, no track.

really is that simple. Doesn't matter how many wobble sounds or massive presets you use ...
Start with the basics. And the 80s called, they want their reverb back.

And brostep is a derogatory term for that style of music that is dub with sounds that made people the stoners that listened to the old dubstep annoyed. It isn't a genre. It is a comment on the tendency for steroid using douche bags that rape girls in florida during spring break.

I wouldn't worry about publicity at this point.

Honest to God, if you think there is no bass in the mix, you must not have a sub. Also, I recognize where the term "brostep" came from. I'll also call it "mid-range cack" if I want to as well. Doesn't bug me. Negative connotation or not. I admitted that I would like to get a new kick sound, too. I also like how you insinuated that I had massive "presets" rather than noting anything about my own sound design. And really? The 70s called and want their joke back. Don't be a cock. Give straightforward advice. This is a WIP, not a finished product, and I'm looking on real feedback on how to get better. Not some douchey remarks and pithy, smug comebacks.

at 1:47 , your bass disappears. YOu can't hear your kick and everything is being drowned out by those ear piercing sounds. You only have bass when there is no actual beat. Obvious misuse of compression but i won't get into that because you really do need to focus on simpler things. Regarding your sounds. It doesn't matter where you got thems, the point is that it sounds like you are using them. Nobody is going to listen and think, well it sounds like every single other fucking tutorial regarding massive but maybe he isn't using massive therefore it is good. It doesn't matter how, it only matters that they sound like you are.

I was listening on a pair of Genelec 1029 with the matching sub and HS80s.

I gave very straight forward advice.

Work on your kick, your bass and your backbeat. Because those 3 things, the foundation of a dance track , you don't really have. So it doesn't matter what you do at this point. Until you get that sorted, you are wasting your time. That will make you better. Focus on the essentials , then do more. But right now, you need to stop, rewind and start again.

There isn't much else one could say. What would you tell someone who made a house on sand. Nice fucking windows ? I like the paint scheme. Or , ya , you might want to focus on the foundation before you do anything else.
