Dog Running Teen hospitalized after four-day Call of Duty marathon

quote:
An Ohio teenage boy was hospitalized this week after a four-day Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 marathon led to "severe dehydration," reports local NBC affiliate WCMH-TV. According to the boy's mother, the Columbus teen only emerged from his room to grab snacks and to take a short shower.

Dr. Mike Patrick does not recommend gaming for extended periods of time.
The boy collapsed multiple times after playing Modern Warfare 3 for "at least four days", and was admitted to a nearby hospital, where doctors placed an IV to replenish his lost fluids. He is expected to be just fine, but his mother has taken away his Xbox 360.

Activision had not returned requests for comment as of press time.

Emergency physician at Nationwide Children's Hospital Dr. Mike Patrick told the news outlet that gamers should exercise common sense. He recommends drinking plenty of fluids, taking breaks for physical activity, and getting sleep.

Earlier this month, a Diablo III marathon session resulted in the death of a 18-year-old Taiwanese man in an Internet cafe.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised that these kinds of things still happen

Longest marathon I've personally known anyone to play video games for is 16 hours straight of World of Warcraft raiding. He was only able to pull off such a feat with lots of meth. I kind of assume gaming deaths must be drug related when I hear of people playing for 30+ hours.

source.

Crazy shit indeed.

I remember hearing about a Chinese dude you stabbed his friend with a letter opener because his friend stole an item from him in FF Online or something.

Moderation is the key.

I can't sit in front of the computer for so long until I feel the need to rise up from the chair for some fresh air and physical activity. I don't drink caffeine drinks, BTW. It's probably for the best.
