okay, I have the movie with me right now and after hearing lots of people saying how great this film is I decided to check it out.

My question is, I have a very weak stomache. Is this movie anything like Darren Aronofsky's other movie Requiem for a Dream? It's the main reason that I want to check it out but I'm alone right now and I'm chickenshit

Good thing I didn't see Requiem for a Dream alone because that movie left me physically ill for almost a week (not kidding). Friends tell me that Pi is more psychological whereas Requiem was more visually stunning. I took some quick glances at Pi and see that it's black and white and has me freaked already. Is this a good movie to watch alone? because I'm dying to check it out NOW, but I'm a little worried.

I need someone to hold.

there are only about three or four scenes that are visually disgusting in PI. Reqium was alot more disgusting, but there are still some gross parts to it, especially the last scene. Its definately alot more psychological, and very confusing.

I'd say you should see it anyway, I dont think it will be as bad as reqium.

Pi is a sweet movie... you shouldnt have to much trouble with your stomach either.

Yeah nothing wrong with Pi, good movie.. Nothing wrong with Requiem For a Dream either though... I mean, unless you recognise yourself in one of the involved characters (in such case - get help), it's a very good pseudo-study of darker side of society... But anyway..

I'd say the point of Requiem was to recognize yourself in the characters, and to have compassion for them. It's not about the surface level, it's about basic life situations that come up. Being lonely, the dependence of modern society on drugs to fix problems, and so on. I don't think you have to be a junkie, a whore, or a lonely 60 year old woman to see yourself in those characters, and to gain something from the film.

Or maybe I and my friends are just screwed up, as we see each other in Schindler's List as well...

And no, Pi is nothing like Requiem in the downward spiral, hopeless despair, etc. column because it wasn't written by Hubert Selby, Jr...the author of Requiem (and several other similarly cheery books which I'd highly recommend)

Pi is definitely more of a mental movie than an emotional one, very entertaining though, and well worth a look-see.
