The last time he was here, he was far too deep for the crowd at Cube to handle haha, but easily one of my favorite bookings to come through there. I've always been a fan of his sound. Have fun!

I'm hoping to hear some deeper, darker tunes from him.. I hope he plays an older track or 2. Maybe this: <3

All I have to say after last night is:

I hope that fucking set was recorded. Wow. Talk about destruction. Footwork is like, THE perfect venue for this guy. Chugging basslines, like his earlier stuff.

Review: Satoshi a la Carte

Review: Satoshi a la Carte

Let me start off by saying that last night was the best night of consistently great music I've heard all year! Prior events had been good, but I find myself overusing the word underwhelmed a lot to describe most parties I've attended this year - Last night was not the case. There were no filler tunes! It's almost impossible these days for me to honestly say that I enjoyed every song that came out of the speakers - But I sure did!

With all the TIFF affiliated clubs serving until 4 am, Footwork never reached anywhere close to capacity, which was great. I had plenty of room for prehistoric dance floor destructions, and the large majority of the crowd were enjoyable to be around, and surprisingly shocked me with their dancing skills. The girl-to-guy ratio was on par for a while to. Speaking of which, I can't remember the last time I've seen so many cute, dressed up girls. The after last call crowd that came over were pretty interesting too.. specifically the Japanese entourage who started dancing circles around everyone like a Tasmanian devil haha. I never broke a sweat once! How is that even a possibility ?! The cooling fans were more than adequate and I was quite thankful for that.. I normally leave the club looking like a hot mess. The acoustics sounded like they've been improved as well ? It sounded so crisp!

I caught the last bit J-Butz' foreplay soundtrack. It was very inviting and I wasted no time coming up to sway and wiggle. Matt Coolridge: there's a name I haven't seen on a bill in years!! He picked up where Jeff left off and continued the deeper route. I was really impressed; it was the best I've heard him play from what I can recall. There were times when I felt the bass lines couldn't get any deeper.. Was starting to get worried that if it decreased any lower Footwork might submerge underground! I'm not ready to join my ancestors and become fossilized!!

Now.. how do you like your sashimi ? For me personally, I like it when it's fresh, cut right, and tastes so damn good that I let it slide slowly down my throat, savouring every moment. I indulged in an all you can eat musical sashimi fest last night from Satoshi a la carte. It seems Satoshi has changed career paths again. How does one make the transition from being an artiste, to terrorizing dreams, and then becoming a master sushi chef?! His set is up there with one of the best I've heard, and was easily his best performance at Footwork! I kept my expectations to an even mark, and was blown away like the first time I saw him at Sonic. Coolridge set the bar up nicely for Satoshi - who continued to stay in the direction of sexy music. The serving size was just right, and it had so much flavour. He played lots of deep tracks, some darker prog, and there were hints of percussion. Oh and he dropped my tune of the year too:

Maceo Plex - Future Musik

This track is sex. Even the robots in the video can't keep their kinks to themselves. That's pretty much how I felt. Which direction do I thrust in!? He also dropped a Slok(ID?) track and a few other recognizable tunes. I got pleasure from the bass.. in this case literally:

Tiga - Pleasure From The Bass (Subb-An Remix)

haha. Oh yea.. he opened with

Catz 'n Dogz feat. Monty Luke - They Frontin

There were lots of wow moments.. unexpected veering and tunes that made my mind spin. He suddenly went all ambient and atmospheric on us with this galactic sounding track.. and then these massive bass lines randomly came in. I need an id on this!! From 3 to 4 he went his more traditional raw sounding route - chuggy house from 2004-2005 (think Peace Division.) It reminded me of Boa.. it was very stripped down. He lost me for a bit and I started to feel full from all the sashimi. His last track was another WTF?! moment with another drop that was unexpected. He ended with this beaut:

Tomas Barfod - Till We Die feat. Nina Kinert (Blond:ish Remix)

Perfect closing song <3 I wanted to stay for the closers, who opened up with a Maetrik track, but my body was destroyed. I never left the dance floor once.. It's been ages since I left a club with that big of a smile on my face. I can go for AYCE sashimi again!!
