Question Defragmant Speed ???

Hey guys I was wondering which of these the defragmant speed depends on???

CPU?
RAM?
HARD DISK?
ANYTHING ELSE?

If it depends more than one thing could you please inform me how much(eg.10% Ram 90%Hard disk)

If you answer I can learn why my defragmants last more than 9 hours?? ((

your defragmant will always last long,
the problem is defragmant depends on all the parts you mentioned and even if one of them is slow it will be enough to take your defragmants to another era

THE DEFRAGMENT WILL MOSTLY DEPEND ON HOW MUCH STUFF YOU HAVE ON YOUR 30 GIG.................. AND ON THE RAM OF YOUR COMPUTER

The CPU is responsible for the speed of defragmenting
The ram has nothing to do with it.
The bigger your hdd the longer it lasts of course...

Depends on how big your hard drive..plus when you're defragging close all programs..disable the screensave etc.

doesn't it also depend on the speed of your drive? like 5400rpm vs. 7200 rpm. and it also depends on how defragmented it is. my 40gb 7200 rpm with 38 gbs on it can be defragmented faster than my 13gb 5400 rpm drive with only 8gbs on it.

Here's what I heard before: It has to do with ALL of those things in a way.
It really depends on how fragmented ur HDD is and how fast can random files be moved to certain locations on the drive. So, how fast it defrags depends on how MUCH needs to be defragged, how many fragments are present in the files that need to be defragged, how much RAM you have (the more you have, the more pieces you can store in it), and the CPU speed (I think it's for how fast can the fragmented data can be moved from the HDD to the RAM AND organise it). So, in order, from most important to least important, it may go like this:
1. How many files are fragged.
2. How fragged are those files.
3. How fast is your CPU.
4. How much RAM you have.
5. How fast is the HDD, in RPM.

Correct me if I'm wrong. If you have a slow system with little RAM, of course defrag will take hours...

This is good, but I'd put it more like this

1. How long has it been since you last defraged?
2. Total size of files being defraged.
3. CPU
4. RAM
5. RPM

Also, if any single element (CPU, RAM, or RPM) is especially deficient, it cannot be "made up for" by the others.

9 hours sounds very reasonable to me for that system, but it would be less if you did it more frequently.

Cheers,

Arbiter
