They are quantized. But, you still hear the changes when jumping from one part to the next. I dont know maybe I'm not setting them at the right places? Also it's still a mystery how Armin mixes ASOT shows without going crazy pressing HOT CUE buttons. I mean you have to time your jumps right on beat or else like I said you hear the change.

At this point I am beginning to think he just edits the tracks and then mixes them but some people swear he uses hot cue points.

warp your tracks in ableton. As adam said, you can rely on the quantizing function. I personally think the ability to hit a button in time so fucking rudimentary that the quantizing feature will usually cause more headaches than just using your ear. Worst case , you have to adjust the phase ever so slightly.

I use to think that ASOT was not live either until he did the ASOT 600 episode where it was broadcasted live on Youtube feed. He was clearly mixing live with CDJs. But, who knows maybe it was premixed. Just knowing Armin I doubt he would pull a Guetta move and do something like that.

I know Abelton is the way to go just thought he had some sort of preparation technique to make it look that simple.

the problem is that performance royalties work on a credit system which will have different rates for different time range for most countries and it would make absolutely no sense to not record the mix prior having a cue sheet knowing exactly what is going to be on there. There is too much at stake that you would have to be completely retarded to wing it even if you could do it the same or better 50% of the time. What armin lacks in talent, he makes up in business skill.
