fyi: don't buy denon anything

pretty fucking terrible build quality and shit customer service.

the CDJ
ive used it a handful of times, it no longer reads disks and guess what? denon wants me to pay roughly 40% of the msrp of it to repair.

been in the closet for a year now collecting dust. mind you when i had it the thing hadn't moved and was stationary the entire time and this was back in the day when i gave a shit about djing so i dusted it off every week or so.

literally stopped working randomly...

the receiver
recently bought a home theatre receiver by them, it cost me about 1,100 tax in. pretty top of the line - 4 months old. middle of my netflix the thing shuts off randomly. powers back on and then keeps rebooting - like something shorting it.

so i check all my terminals and cabling - redid them to make sure. same issue, fuck me right. call up denon, the error code according to them means need to be repaired.

2 weeks later they call me up "yo bro you damaged the hdmi terminal 250$ to repair, not covered under warranty" I don't really see how a unit thats been stationary with no tension on the cables gets a damaged terminal but i give them the benefit of the doubt and pay up.

get the unit a week later. SAME FUCKING PROBLEM. cool man A+

check the screws to see if they even bothered opening it up - don't see a single toolmark or scratch on the unit anywhere or on the screws.

awesome.

fuck my life.

Denon stuff isn't usually that bad. I know plenty of people with their equipment, and to my knowledge, no problems ever.

If you sent something back for repair, and got the same problem a week later, then it's on them to fix it free of charge, including shipping if that was an issue. They pretty much have to cover it.

FYI, leaving something sitting around without use can be bad too, especially if it's in a wet or humid climate, though it depends on the type of hardware itself. Knobs/sliders, for example, can build up shit to the point where they don't make proper contact.

Additionally, anyone that knows how to use a screwdriver (with the possible exclusion of Michael J Fox) won't be leaving obvious marks on the unit, when they are opening/closing it

Sorry to hear your Denon was massive fail. IF you can return it, check out Pioneer.

Fair enough, then they've most likely had an issue with some of their components at that time, for their recievers. Again, this should be something they'll fix for you for free, since it already went in for repair. Remind them of the "this is a known problem" thing over and over.

With the CDJ though, I dunno. Leaving something sitting around without use is normally a bad idea with electronics.

I have two 'normal' Denon cd players. One of them has pitch control. Must be heading to 20 years now and still work like the first day. So, buy old Denon stuff?

In my experience, Denon is okay for home use but it doesn't stand a chance against the abuse a CDJ gets in a club environment. You know that fancy little vinyl platter on top of the jog wheel? No? That's because it's the first thing that goes flying through the club.
At least pre cdj-2000 era, nothing apart from that silver technics cdj that just didn't feel right, held up against the build and functionality of Pioneer.

But for home use, where the owner can keep track of who plays on them? Sure.. Unless it's a mark1 model.

hello

ye...there are people who use Denon who get higher than everest on my score card. So in terms of "outcomes" that you get from Denon gear...... there can't be any question of it's quality.

But still, there are other people who have mentioned that although the
gear is diamond, it *does* break. This is unacceptable when you are
paying 200 to 250 pounds sterling for a pair of headphones that don't last one week?

yes, the gear is assembled at the other end of the world in places that we all know about. But it should not break even before it's been extensively used. (literally just a few days out of the wrapper)

The problem must be the quality control on the factory lines
and not so much the materials used (shipping, quality control....yields and so on)

it is a shame, because on the one hand, it's lovely gear, but on the other hand, well see above.

that my 2 c3nts worth

V.
