New Autechre record (Exai) out now

https://bleep.com/release/41081-autechre-exai

Only digitally right now, physical will ship later.

Since Autechre has the most ridiculous and split fans in the world I'm interested to see what the reception to this one is going to be. It's definitely going back to their more "IDM-y", glitchy sound after Oversteps, which was pretty tame and melodic.

I'm not sure what to make of it yet. I'm one of the early, melodic Autechre guys so I'm a bit put off from a first impression. It's not all glitchy drum-wank though, there's defnitely some melodic bits here and there. I guess it's somewhat reminiscent of the time when they were making the transition between melodic and glitchy?

By the way, here's the WATTM thread about it - http://forum.watmm.com/topic/75767-new-autechre-album-announced-exai-warp234/page-249

The hyper Ae nuts seem to love it.

I have a real hard time listening to that kind of stuff. Not going to disparage it as I assume there are probably a lot of interesting components and arrangements that go into it but just not my thing at all.

I liked Oversteps, but have little interest in the harsh and glitchy stuff. It doesn't really evoke any kind of reaction from me beyond vague discomfort.

You need to listen fifty times and then you'll get IT and enlightment will come upon you. A level of understanding that Oversteps-loving peasents will never even come close to. Or that's what the Confield people will tell you.

On a more serious note, I think I'll give this record a listen. There seem to still be remnants from Oversteps in there, maybe enough to make the thing interesting.

I tried listening to it again, I just cant. Maybe that just makes me uncultured ahole but I honestly feel like this music was meant to be played at maximum volume in a prison full of child molesters.

maybe its nostalgia or my musical preference, but i don't think this album has anything on Incunabula (1993) ‎or Amber (1994). the tracks on those albums are just special to me because of the emotion, warmth and precision.

this album sounds like noise and while different, hurts my ears.
