I've never seen Porter Robinson before, I'm only familiar with the guy from his Language track which is great. He seems to be on fire though for a 20 yr old guy with one big hit. Roseland was crowded but not as much as I've seen it for Prydz' shows last yr. Porter Robinson's set was good but the guy played a very chopped up set. He must have played about 200 songs in 2 hours, felt like he was playing a cd sampler. His style basically makes the crowd rage hard for 30 seconds and then he stops the beat and plays something else. Just when you're getting into a song, 20 seconds in it's over, lol. After the 1st hour it just got annoying. Mat Zo, who always plays and produces with Porter Robinson, seems to be doing the same thing now. He packed 70 tracks in his Essential Mix this weekend. Not bad, but made me want a set where I could dance to one track for at least 3 minutes, lol.
Otherwise, great light show and an awesome night for first party of the year for me |
Another case of these guys are producers not dj's. They wouldn't know how to build a proper set if it was pre-recorded for them.
