Hello everyone, I was recently introduced to trance and was wondering if you had any suggestions of songs or new cds I could purchase.

Here is my definitive bare bones trance cd must haves. Some are not available that easily but perhaps you can find a mp3 somewhere.

Those are as bare boned essentials as you can get. Obviously other people will have different suggestions but to me that basically gives you the flavor of trance as good as possible.

you should get the system f trance nation mix complilations. pure gold.

i'd buy them off amazon. they will be a few quid each probably.

interesting to hear how the genre progressed with the series. a nice window into trance at it's peak.

this is how i started with trance nation and was sucked in



then i'd move onto tiesto's in search of sunrise CDs (1 - 3)

and paul van dyk - out there and back for a really nice artisic album.

next thing you know you'll be banging out dark techno

I think the better route would be to encourage you to listen to your favorite dj's weekly podcasts. There are quite a few:

However, if you must "buy" mixes, some of my most recent purchases have been Armin's - Universal Religion 6 , Paul van Dyk's - Evolution , Markus Schulz - Los Angeles 12 and probably one of my favorites, MOS Annual 2013.

For recent stuff, like the past three months:

Solar Stone/Orkidea - Pure Trance
Bissen - Global Trance USA
John O'Callaghan - Subculture 2013

The Bissen one is the slower relaxed 2.0 ish trancy sound that is currently popular, the O'callaghan is the ASOT vocally type sound that tends to come from the Armin camp, also rather popular. My favorite recent mix cd is definately the solar stone one, particularly the second disc.

For history I have to reiterate the northern exposure series, excellent iconic tracks in there.

I sort of envy new people, getting to hear all this great music for the first time. Play it really loud, put on some incense or something that you like the smell of to really make the memory set in. As cheesy as it sounds I liked to drive out to this really bare flat area with a few friends with some trance on and watch the sunset.

Aside from CD's I have to recommend Gareth Emory's podcast, as well as Sander Van Doorn, Protoculture, JOOF, and Christopher Lawrence. They all put out downloadable mixes about twice a month (+/-). The classical favorite DJ's people cling to are usually Paul Oakenfold, Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten. They are still quite enjoyable but my favorites these days are John Askew, Christopher Lawrence, Orkidea, and JOOF.

It is a good time to be getting into trance. In my opinion the trancers have really been killing it lately.
