Book recomendation
I wanted to recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about harmony its written from a point of view of a computer musician so includes piano roll diagram as well as normal sheet music notation.
I am finding it very interesting and useful. It mostly deals with 4 part harmony and covers traditional harmony quite thoroughly imo (inversions, degrees of a scale and their triads and typical uses of each, dissonance and consonance etc etc) then 7ths, 9ths, 11ths etc and touches on jazz and modal harmony
Whats really useful are the exercises that come along with it - very practical for example harmonizing a bass line or lead (and ive not finished them all by any means)
It does assume a basic knowledge of scales and keys etc. If you are already classically trained i doubt if it will have anything to offer you, but if not it could be useful. If you need to brush up on the very basics of music theory before - i understand there are 2 books in the same series that lead up to the harmony book
