Hmm. maybe thats it... i dont see a send and return button..hmm
ill look into it.. The mixer i have is a rane 8z
Also, like you mentioned,,, normally you have send outs and then return inputs... but this just has one input (left and right) for "program loop".... I believe that is why i needed the Y cable, because the V portion of consist of one send (one end) the other receive (other part of the V).. then, they meet and combine into one adapter or one port .. in a sense, it loops the signal.. I think that is why its calle a loop connector, and that is why i need it for the "program loop"
But i dont see a send and receive anywhere.. Let me look at the manual a bit more
Actually, i found it.. its in the back, right next to the "tape out".. but its a small button that says program loop and points to the tape outs...
I guess the tape out (ouput) signal receives the processed signal,,, none of the other outputs.. Strange. Ill mess with it, but im sure that was it.
Thanks for your help

read your manual again
Rane has a way of doing things differently compared to other brands, usually it would be a Input Output for the effects, but their it's meant to be used like you mentioned, with a Y cable, in other words, an insert cable you would normally use on a live mixing table ( not dj mixers )
go to your store, and get one, it's easy to find.
the pre post effect loop switch is for the tape recorder:
basically it means, either you set it on PRE ; meaning before, and it will send sound before it's processed by the program loop ( effect)
POST will make it send the sound after it's been processed by the program loop ( effect) .
PRE / POST ... it's not that hard to understand
here's a link of
ranes website
it looks like this kinda
link to store

Yeah I got it to work. Actually, right after hearing Hey Cheggys comment on the return and receive... but it ended up being the post buttong down by the tape outputs
My problem was that I didnt get the whole pre post for the "tape output"...
I already had the TRS loop back Y wires, and I had them connected correctly, its just that I didnt have my monitors on the tape out, so I couldnt get the post effects
that is what drew off me off. In other words, I expected to get the post effects through every output, and I use my monitor speakers directly to the mixer, considering they have a built in amp. I was just assuming that it would play the post effects through the whole thing, just like MIC does not play through tape outs as well. I
I guess the way they see it (RANE) is that you connect everything to an AMP and then to your speakers, computer etc. My problem is that I use monitor speakers that are preamped, so I dont use an amp...
Everything from the mixer goes directly to my computer or to my speakers. I guess Im going to need some sort of a "hub" or amp where I can connect everything from the mixer, to be able to integrate the MIC (mic only plays through Main or AUX), tape out and other outputs. However, Im going to need something that gives an output that is not amplified as well, because of my speakers. Im wondering what I can use.
