Actually, believing this is selfish would be very selfish of them. A person lost a life, for crying out loud, can you really compare any pain you feel to the despair that drove someone to suicide?!

I'm sorry, I should've been more specific. It's selfish in the sense that you may be the only thing your parent(s) have left, and the ultimate purpose and joy of their existence. Suicide may steal the only thing your parent(s) have left, perhaps the sole reason for their own existence.
It's hard to do something awesome when you're in despair.
