woony - 02112013 [three hours of techno]

Tracklist is pretty long so check it out on Soundcloud. I don't know if anyone is actually going to sit through this, but here we go regardless

I'm still trying to learn the ropes and vinyl and in the meantime I've been itching to make some more mixes so I sat down with Traktor to record some techno. My more recent techno mixes have been pretty fast in terms of mixing so I had the idea of doing a longer mix and giving the tracks some more breathing room. There's a few tracks that are a bit off in the pacing but overall I like the flow. It gets quite heavy in the first two hours with a few deeper moments but last half hour or so is pretty melodic. Lots of cool tracks from this year with some of my more modern techno favorites as well as some classic tracks.

So yeah, enjoy, I'd be honored if anyone actually makes it through this and lives to give me feedback

Yeah, almost all should be available at Beatport or the usual retailers. There's a few old ones taken off CDs and compilation but they should be able to be found as well. I have a decent amount of techno 12's (a lot of vinyl only stuff) now but I don't see the point of ripping them for Traktor.

Just finished listening to this and I definitely think its my favorite of all your sets ive heard. You kept a lot of the tracks going for much longer than usual and your patience paid off as the slower build created a much more coherent well put together set. Also, I loved the ending of the mix and it almost felt like you were ending it as if you were a 90s techno dj at a festival setting up the progressive trance dj to come after you. the last couple of songs are borderline tech trance frankfurt from the mid 90s. obviously i enjoyed that a lot.

only complaint is that i think it would have been nice to also start out much slower and perhaps on the house side of things before we got a lot of the hard jackhammer berlin stuff.

one other question and negative feedback is that i am not sure what kind of mixer you have but i didnt really like some of the dj effects ie killing the sound etc you did as it felt amateurish at times but ive noticed that a lot of times thats because of the mixer and there is a reason pro djs love the xone92 etc. perhaps amateurish is the wrong word, it just didnt feel right and was more distracting than additive to the overall experience. but usually the quality of the gear really is the difference here most of the times.

on a side note, i am proud and patting myself on the back since now i am up to knowing something like 70% of the tracks you are playing.

Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it when somebody actually sits through something like this and provides feedback afterwards.

In terms of effects, what exactly are you referring to? I find it curious that you name the 92, because I use the internal Xone EQs which are modelled after the 92 I think.

I believe you killed the sound from one of the decks and played a sample from the other one. wish i would have token note of the time this occured. but for some reason it seemed that there was this delay between the two that just wasnt very smooth. does that make sense? sorry i should have token note of the time i heard these and it would have been better or more productive that way. in general the couple of times it appeared that you killed the sound from one deck during the middle of the song just didnt flow very well in my opinion. why i brought up the gear thing because i have heard that there are delays in some gear that can make someone one note always behind what you actually hear.

Oh right, I did that with the crossfader. Jeff Mills for example did that sort of thing a lot in the 3 deck loop techno era and I think it sounds pretty cool if you have a slamming track coming in but maybe it's actually totally lame? I don't know.
