Try and get 20 - 20 000 hz response range... an even wider range is better, even though you can't "hear" those frequencies.

for rich, deep sound get at least 2way speakers and for punchy bass a separate sub.

if you want anything decent, you should run a line out of your sound card and into a seperate amp, then use normal speakers rather than powered computer speakers

cheggy,

can you please elaborate. i didn't plan on getting powered computer speakers, but how do i go about "run a line out of your sound card"? this sounds a little complicated.

also what is the importance of impedance when talking about speakers? here is a brief over view of the speakers i'm looking at...

3-way design

12" polymer woofer

5-1/4" liquid-cooled dome

7/8" liquid-cooled dome tweeter

8 ohms average impedance

10 - 250 watts suggested amplifier power

28Hz - 20kHz frequency response

900Hz, 2800Hz crossover frequency

90dB @ 1W - 1M sensitivity

i have to admit i don't know what the importance of the crossover frequency, sensitivity, and impedance are? i just assume more means better right hehehe.

Why dont ya get some acitve monitors? No amp required and sweet as fuck. They cost a bit but i got my M-Audio SP-8s for £200 which aint bad considering what you could pay for a speaker and amp setup.

You have to match the impedance of the speaker to the impedance of the amp, dont ask why, just do it.

crossover freqs are the frequency numbers at which it switches from using the woofer to the cone to the tweeter

so

28Hz<[Woofer]<900Hz
900Hz<[Midrange unit]<2800Hz
2800Hz<[Tweeter]<20000Hz

as you can see, it crosses over the signal once the frequency passes a certain note. you should be able to test it with a tone generator, say.. playing a tone that wavers between 890 and 910 Hz (you should barely be able to hear the woofer hand it off to the midrange)
