Thread about "bashing threads"

FACT 1: We all like different genres, producers, and tracks.
FACT 2: FACT 1 is legal by all means as well as socially acceptable.
FACT 3: Often times we see threads displaying a persons like/dislike of an artist, choon, or genre.
FACT 4: There are always a handful of people on either side of each "argument" that shoot comments back and forth about how closed minded and stupid each other are for liking/disliking the item of dispute.
FACT 5: This forum (Music Discussion) is meant for people to discuss music and the people who make it.

Why is it that people, quite often, do not respect the opinions of others? Is it so hard to accept that someone may not like exactly the same stuff as you or maybe you feel insecure when the things you are fond of are bashed.

I'm just tired of seeing threads that could be good discussion degenerarte to rediculous flame wars. Yes, when someone says "i hate progressive because its boring" I (marc) may want to say "fuck off prog is great its so chill and bla bla bla....." but whats the point of that? It's useless to try and force someone into liking something they don't particularly like.

[/rant]

Just thought i'd start a thread on this because i've noticed that tons of threads just degenerate as described....

Comments?

Cheers!
-Marc

This thread is so lame, it's cheesy bullshit? Why post this here?

[/joke]

Just kidding. I entirely agree with you - too many discussions that could have intelligent points just end up becoming flame wars.

Totally agree. Don't say "Tiesto sucks", say "I don't like Tiesto", and maybe give a short explanation; "because his songs all have the same buildup, and it makes you think that it's a remix of another song". It makes everything better, and noone will reply with "fuck you, Tiesto rox".

Also, instead of, as in most cases, say "it sux", give a short damn explanation, like "I think it sux, because the melody is boring, and it's the same melody over and over again, nothing changes".

This would make the world, well at least the TA forums, a better place

And about the Tiesto thing, it was just an example. I have nothing against Tiesto.

this is something from human nature, the flame wars in internet forums. the harder you try, you'll never solve the problem. we humans are all too agressive. and nothing costs as much as admiting the other person's right and you're wrong so many people try to defend their point of view till the last consequences.

(note: i don't know shit about psychology)

Totally agree. No need to flame anyone for stating their opinion.

Really great trance music is best heard when you're lying on the floor, with arms outstretched, crucified beneath monstrous speakers. Trance takes the thump of hardcore techno music and scatters it among swirls of melody and elliptical rhythms, facilitating a sense of detachment that allows the mind to wander. For instance, on Sasha's Global Underground: Ibiza the sounds rise and fall together, working cohesively, like on a perfect night in the blue room upstairs at the rave, bringing you back down to Earth only long enough to be bounced right back into the stratosphere. The music provides an appreciation of musical space--the distance between sounds and the silence before the boom--allowing the listener to seep into each song slowly, convincingly.
