Have they ever really been "anti-commercial"? They were moody bastards on Top Of The Pops when they "performed" Chime in 1990, but they went on the show in the first place presumably to help them sell more records. They've also done things like The Saint and Satan Spawn which were fairly commercial enterprises. I see this as essentially being a joke, and Orbital always fitted into the tradition of British electronic pranksters (see The KLF, The Shamen, The Orb, Autechre's Flutter EP and so on).
Also, their last album really wasn't bad at all. I certainly think New France is up there with some of their best material, particularly this mix:
