PVD mixing Trixxxxxxx

In Mayday, I noticed that PVD likes to pause his sets. How is this done? Does he kill the volume, or does he actually stop the record.

This is my hypothesis:
My mixer has a switch to change from phono to line. At the instant I want to pause the record, i switch phono to line and stop the record with his finger to avoid hearing the record slowing down when stopping. Right before I want the record to come back in, i nudge the record forward to compensate for the torque and flip back to phono. Ive been doing this for about a month and still doesnt sound perfect and all of this happens in a split second so its not a simple task to do.

Does anyone know how this is done?

just cut to line for the 3rd of 4 beats and bring it back right before the first of the next 4. Don't stop the record at all. He's just cutting out the last beat of the phrase.

it seems to me that he paused the record instead of killing it. You think so?

Maybe, but I doubt he stopped the record. I've seen him line switch before and he doesn't touch the record.

he does it several times in mayday.

I think he does it near the end of Rhythm Gangstar - Crowd song (first song).

No, he doesn't pause the record.

As mentioned above, what PVD does is cut the line (using volume, or x-fader, or whatever, it's all the same if you do it fast enough) for a bar, then puts it back up.

No, cos if you just hit the kills, you are still going to get a bit of volume still coming through. You just either flick the line selector switch, or as they've said, the channel fader or cross fader if you don't have anything playing on the other deck. It sounds better with techno

if you use the xfader, youd hear the sound fade in if youre not quick enough. I think he uses the line switch.
