What do I mean by on/off? Breaks. So many breaks. 1 minute break here, two minute break there, three minute break in the very next song. 4 minutes of beat and then 3 minutes of holding your hands in the air just doesn't keep the energy flowing, no matter how good a set is. Don't get me wrong, those sets are great to listen to when I'm sitting in my computer chair, but at a club keep that fucking beat rolling. Edit your tracks if you need to, like Christopher Lawrence does.
Listen to some old trance tracks from the late 90s/early 2000s. They all have one thing in commmon; they keep the beat rolling. They still might have a "break," but in the old school breaks they still maintain a beat throughout, keeping the dance floor throbbing as the melodies build into a heavier beat.
My next releases on L*C*D are mostly breakless trance songs. BRINGIN' IT BACK. |
too few people keep the beat going for themselves, alas
in my book what makes tracks really good is if they aren't predictable, meaning if it's a continuous floor fake out, but rare....
