kick and bass groove

I posted this originally in the wrong section so here goes in this one...

When i listen to some tracks by say, day din or digicult, there may be small sections where theres almost nothing going on except the kick drum and bassline, however the track keeps moving driven only by a quantized kick and quantised typical trance bassline.
When i try to do it, (just a kick and trance bassline )it sounds completely static almost clockwork and i cant figure out how they pull it off.
Is anyone good at this? or have any good advice? Im not talking about eqing the bass to fit the kick or vice versa. How do they get it to roll along when nothing else is going on?

ok
heres an example
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOngEhkizT8
this is a song called magic by digicult.
from around 25 secs to 40 secs in the track theres little going on but the kick and bass seem to be able to provide a drive that I cant get.
I know theres some other stuff going on but there isnt anything thats contributing to what I mean..
hope the link helps

Well it's just a rolling bass with some atmosphere.

when you say perhaps the wrong kick sample, do you think its easier to use a sample, as opposed to say a synthesized sine sweep or would that need layering?

it's psy trance, look up "how to get a fat psy trance bassline" on youtube.

you might try some layering, everything is in 16th notes, and the bass line is just the 3 note offbeat pattern.

so use a sinwave mixed with a saw wave for your bassline and use some filter envelope modulation to make it have a rolling feel. you know have the filter envelope openiong and closing over a long period of time like 16 beats..
