Neumann KH120A vs FOCAL CMS65 vs Quested S7R

HEY GUYS,

Straight to the point...
I need big big help with this!!!

It's time to upgrade my monitors.

Genre produced : all EDM, electronic... tech, deep, need to hear the bass and the kick punching...
Budget : aprox ~ max 2000 Euro / pair...
Already OWN : Equator D5 and ATH M50
Room size is 2.5x 5m x 2.5m (height) and already treated with a bass traps and panels in all critical points and more..

[!]Will produce, arrange, mix and even soft mastering...
[!]Already have, good pc/mabook, controlers, keyboards, soundcard, etc

I have to pick between:

Neumann KH120A - 1270.00 EUR
FOCAL CMS65 - 1435.00 EUR
Quested S7R - 1799.00 EUR

OR anything else better in the same price range but in the offer of the "German big site" ...

I can add in the same time a pair of Avantone Mixcubes... and sell the D5...

I heard a lot of good things about all of them, i read all the threads and every post in the forum.... but i'm still confused...
I know all can compete with each other, some prefer the Neumann's over Focals, and some say S7R are better and can handle higher volumes...

WHAT I WANT:

- I def want something that can help me get "that kick and that bass right"... in combination with M50 and mixcubes... and i can rely on it without doubts... that can translate and reveal problems...

- i want to end the frustration of buying all kind of cheap monitors that can't do the job... I know the ones selected are the best in that price range...

- I want a very very very good pair that can serve me 12-18 months without problems , till i can upgrade to FOCAL SM9 or something better!

- i know i can add 300-400 or more and get something better... and so ON, but i think it's enough for the moment... and want something intermediary till a 5000-6000 euro / pair, and till a bigger room...

I had good tracks mixes even in untreated room with Behringers B3030A and i worked with these in combo with D5, but in 1 year they already broke 2 times...
ONLY D5 can't HELP me, or i didn't learned them right... In the last period only with D5 and ath m50 i always have problems with the KICK; either is too strong, either to soft, or doesn't match... and the barfing woofers are killing me...

Somehow i believe the D5 are very very good, because some top mastered tracks sound exactly the way i want to produce... but they will remain an enigma for me or serve as a B/C reference ...

I really need all your help guys and any suggestion is welcome...

Thanks a lot!

Sorry, I have no direct experience with any of those models, so I can't help. But, I am curious as to why you have to pick one of those three models? Those are all a pretty huge jump from your Behringers (not that that's a BAD thing, though!).

Yes... big jump in $$ and quality... because i need it, and is the last "sector" where i need to and can invest some money...
Creativity is always there, but frustration kicks in fast when monitors can't help me enough....

I know there are a lot of other options... 2000 is kind of the limit... already said i will invest more in 12-18 months...

---

I would love to test things here... but in our country there are 2-3 "BIG" stores that order directly from the germans... and they need 100% money in advance.
There is absolutely no way to test the ones i want... i can probably only BUY, yamahas, krk and behringers and test them out... but can't get money BACK or change with something else... IS a mess...

SO unfortunately i am limited and must trust the PRO's...

There is a big gamble here... thomann has a limited offer and my budget is also limited...
I am aware about how subjective is this thing about monitors... but i need to upgrade so this is the only solution..

I see studios and people do cool stuff with cheap yamahas and KRKS, i don't have time and space to buy test and deposit monitors... i have to hit the spot somehow!!!

I would appreciate sincere suggestions and advice taking in consideration my limited options!

Thanks!

I'm sure they are very good Clay... but over my budget too ... like 600 euro...
I will def invest 5000-6000 euro but in 12-18 months...
Now i have max 2000, less is better, more +1 penny, no!

As long as it's a evolution from my actual speakers, than it's OK...

Too expensive, too soon. no

Thanks!

don't really get the point in a interim upgrade. Your bang for buck pretty much plateaux after the mid pro level. have you considered just repairing your montior ? THey aren't exactly complicated to fix.

one of the behringers broke 1st day i plugged in... has been fixed that day... 1 year layer, the tweeter had problems and send it in service again... They said they fixed it or change the tweeter... but when i got it back that little tweeter made some noises on high volumes, and i suppose it wasn't a NEW one...
I can't trust those guys... and they are not others that can fix it... + the tweeter costs almost like a new ONE...
BUYING a new one and risk ?! NO thanks... i had enough of behringer...
I liked the sound, a lot, after the mastering 3x times more... but 1 year later , broken ?!

SO L, you are saying just buy something modest like hs7 or 8 for ex and then wait for the Focal SM9 in 12-18 months ?

Thomann offer a 30 day money back guarantee if you don't like them.

Also look at the Sonodyne SM100AK as they're very good.

In fact that's what I'd go for. €1000 for the pair and they'd definitely be a step up from your Behringers. Then you can put the other €1000 aside for the new monitors whenever that happens.

You could also look at Adam A7X and Dynaudio BM5s
