Holy shit you found a DiVX? Those things are rare these days. It may have expired already. They tend to do that, that is why the idea failed so quickly. Nowadays DiVX is used to rip DVDs into a smaller file format. I think you may be fucked in trying to get that CD to work. Good luck.

lol... that guy was talking about the DVD pay-per-play rental system developed by Circuit City... not the DivX ;-) movie codec!

heres a quote from a divx site:
quote:
- What is DivX ;-)?
You all might knew the term "DivX" from past since it was a DVD Rental system by the same name that emerged about a year ago. However don't mess it with DivX ;-)..Actually DivX ;-) is nothing else but hacked Microsoft Mpeg4 codecs in order to be used with AVI files since original MS Mpeg4 codec were restricted to ASF use only!.

What about the global DivX player. Is that no good. thats what i downloaded. But I read somewhere the minumum requirements for DivX was a pentium 255, well I got a pent 166. Could that be the problem? I do get Audio, just NO Video. Audio is perfect quality????????
I dont get it?????????????

Ill try those codecs now

It could be the problem. I installed a DivX codec on a friends pc (also 166) and tried to run a movie (Fight Club), but the only thing I got was audio and a really little bit of video. The screen refreshed every 5 minutes or so... Let me tell ya... It ain't fun watching a DivX that way.

My guess you're computer is to slow, but you could try the codecs.

Wink ummm.... that IS the problem

in order to get DivX movies running, espiecially at large-resolution DVD rips... its recomended you use at least a 350 mhz processor... and that's for the minimal requirements.

anything less, you're not gonna be doing much with that DivX. I had a pentium 200, and it was unable to keep up everytime there was even a moderate amount of movement.

divx uses mpeg-4 compression, which does require the processing power of newer CPUs.

DVD rips into DiVX format are not rare.

Actual Circuit City DiVX CDs are extremely rare. He said he had a DiVX disc so I assumed it would be one of these.
