Synths

Uh...

The Tb-303 but dunno what soft/w emulates it. Tb-303 and Moog...

I think the best analogue sounds are vocoders (morphed) onto
traditional high end pad(s) digital synth sounds.

It's a can of worms right , what about just a piano for analogue?

best of luck,

V

^ good recommendations. all the software 303 emulators sound like they fall way short when you a/b compare them with a real 303, x0xb0x, etc. but phoscyon is the best softsynth 303 emulator imo and if you don't compare them side-by-side then you'll prob be very happy with it.

monark is the best moog softsynth imo too but some runner-ups are arturia's minimoog v and u-he diva

I have a TB-3 which obviously isn't a VST but I think it sounds great and is alot of fun to program.

I can't vouch for how accurate it is because I don't have a real 303, all I know is that it and Phosycon sound great to my ears.

you're right, phoscyon does sound greatm I was really impressed with it. the first thing that catches my attention compared to an analog 303 is that phoscyon sounds thinner but they really did nail the squelch of the resonance. abl2 (I think that's what it's called) sounds fatter and closer to analog imo but overall abl2 doesn't come close to sounding as good as phoscyon. because phoscyon nails that squelch wayyy better than abl2 and that squelch is the most important aspect for most ppl i'd imagine. this is probably a poor explanation and i'm going off memory from when i got to compare my phoscyon to a real 303 which wasnt mine. I don't have a real 303 either or a tb-3. there are prob some a/b comparisons somewhere online i'm sure.

phoscyon is really impressive though, to OP idea say demo it. you'll prob love it.

edit: my a/b comparison I mention was by ear, no oscilloscope or anything. so take my observations as subjective and with a grain of salt.

I largely ignored Monark when I first got Komplete, but now I find my self using it in many tracks. Works wonders for basslines, (Warning shameless self promotion) made a really nasty electro saw bass with Monark in my last track, kicks in around 1:40

Here's my Bass version of Monark, lol its like its out of control (Monstrous). I added downward parallel compression on my toms and percs and on a new arcana style single kick and took out the binaural pan. I changed mid bass from poly six to mono poly. I changed the chainsaw like acid sound with logic's internal FM synth since it sounded better than omnisphere's fm capabilities. Now if I mastered theory all would be well.

The moog headquarters is within driving distance, they have this giant room full of synthy goodness that they let anyone play with. It is a bit touristy but a fun way to spend a day. If I had a decent enough track to make it worth the bother, I'd probably make the trip and bring a couple laptops or something.

The original AudioRealism Bassline is the closet thing I've heard to Roland's TB-303.

Other clones' resonance/cut off positions don't sound the same when soloed next to a TB-303, but in a mix, it doesn't matter. They will most likely all sound the same if that's the sound they were built to mimic.
