because with a software editor you can have your cake and eat it too. the advantages of having hardware and option of vst plugin. I use the hardware 90% of the time but the software editor has advantages like making automation an option.
I have the jp80x0 editor by mystery islands and being able to automate is a huge bonus plus I can load my patch bank files much easily than having to transfer via sysex. I can't wqit for the new version that has a patch library manager similar to the one in virus ti's total control.
I also have a virus ti and I use the hardware to experimenting by twiddling knobs (much faster than mouse clicking and with hardware u can twiddle multiple knobs at once) plus the keyboard of course. but when I know what kinda sound I wanna make then I might use the vst to click away until I get the sound I want.
it's the best of both worlds imo
