Brain Study Shows Differences Between Gays, Straights

Pretty interesting.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...8062201994.html

This may be the answer to an old acquaintance's remark, "I just don't understand how a guy can't like pussy!"

Some excerpts:

"Some scientists say the new findings are part of an increasingly convincing body of evidence that suggests sexual orientation results from fundamental developmental differences that are probably caused by hormonal exposures in the womb.

...Savic and her colleague Per Lindstrom first used magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, to compare the symmetry of the brains of 25 straight men and 25 straight women with those of 20 gay men and 20 gay women.

Gay men tended to have brains that were more like those of straight women than of straight men -- the right and left sides were about the same size, the researchers found. Gay women's brains tended to be more like those of straight men than of straight women -- the right side tended to be slightly larger than the left.

Many researchers suspect that changes may be the result of the levels of hormones, such as testosterone, that fetuses are exposed to in the womb."

I find it interesting that no bisexuals were found... I wonder if they'd see theirs as a third kind of brain

I still think bisexuals may be more "curious" and perhaps looking for a thrill, rather than actually liking both sexes equally the same. There is probably more of a preference in one respect or another, but who knows.

And I know a lot of bisexuals that would wholly disagree with you.

Would any of the bisexuals you know have a serious relationship with either sex? I don't doubt they exist, I've just yet to meet one.

I have to agree; every person I've ever known who calls themselves bisexual were just either curious or had a pronounced appetite for experiences - and in that respect it would more about exploration that preference.

To be honest, the vast majority of them were frankly confused (many have admitted as much to me) until they actually figured out which one they preferred.

Makes sense. I had a former manager who had one or two relationships with women in the past, but always preferred men and considered himself gay, rather than bisexual. A future relationship with a woman was certainly not on his agenda anymore, as he grew older.

Actually, yeah. That's why they call themselves bisexuals, really, although there are bi-curious people who probably think of themselves as bisexuals, like you said.

I've had a frank chat about it with at least two bisexual friends of mine. One of them, now a married mother, and who happened to be in a relationship with a girl when we talked about it, would say she enjoyed being with a woman a lot more than with a man because they're more affectionate, although she liked guys more. The other one just said she loved people, full stop.

A common, albeit anecdotal, trend I've noticed in bisexual people is they tend to only seriously consider relationships with the opposite sex but they are physically attracted to the same sex in a more throw-away manner.

That said, it is pretty stupid to deny that some people just love both sexes on an emotional and physical level. Those people clearly exist and they're not just being "curious" or "confused".

Sounds like she's confused and still hasn't figured it out, as RANN mentioned.

This is what I meant by, "There is probably more of a preference in one respect or another..." and perhaps what Lira would call bi-curious?
