i don't mean two be an ass my starting a second thread on this topic but i'm desperate...

i'm pretty sure i have a virus...(if you don't know what i'm talking about please read my other thread entitled "need help with possible virus."

i was online today at avp.com using the online virus checker when my system froze up...i had to reboot and when i did nothing happened...

this time i got an error message saying that my "system.ini" file was missing...i then searched my drive for it and found nothing...

...in a panic, i went up to my friends to get a copy of his "system.ini" file to see if my computer would boot windows with it...a can't beleive it but it worked (i still have to boot windows from DOS by typing C:\windows\win).

i've spent all evening backing up my data onto cds...

i need serious help...anyone that knows what to do please help...

files that have somehow been deleted or corrupted:

- himem.sys
- essaudio.sys
- config.sys
- msdos.sys
- emm386.sys
- system.ini
- (directory) C:\windows\command\ebd

i don't know what to do !!!

Dude... just reinstall windows, it'll import all your old shit and replace any missing files.. just point it to install to c:\windows again

Make a bootable win98 floppy and boot from it and load up
the cdrom drivers..

then do this:

ren c:\windows\win.com c:\windows\win.old

change to your CD rom drive letter and type in setup (make sure you have the cd-key handy it might ask u for it) - if you don't have the key then type edit c:\windows\system.dat and choose search and type OEM- you will then see like 12712-OEM-12712-1212 or some crap, copy that # and input it if prompted later on in the install...

If stuff starts messing up after all of this then take what you need off your system and format and install from scratch...
