Advise me on the latest and greatest PC components

I might want to replace my x58 based i7 2700K 16gb ddr-3 2000 with something faster
I want a high end mainboard (no gaming or OC'ing though, just best components and onboard intel video
Fastest latest generation intel core i7
Fastest DDR 4 supported by mobo/chipset/cpu

I already got sansung 85o pro SSD's and don't need a seperate videocard.
Form factor should be ATX
shoot!

I would contact www.scan.co.uk

They will sell you either a pre-built system or DAW tested components. They're well up on parts that cause as few dpc latency issues as possible. Very knowledgeable guys. Not expensive either.

According to CPU Benchmark the best i7 is the 5960x, however the Xeon E5 2699 v3 craps all over it (if you want to pay a few grand for it).

No, CPU about €500, mobo €300, memory €300 tops but I do want a 21nm or even thinner CPU low voltage is king, my system is fully passive now, would like to keep it that way

Raph, what are you doing that makes an i7 2700k with 16gb ram look outdated?

You're in to the land of diminishing returns right now. you;d be better off waiting 6 months for the next of processors to come out and wait until the architecture fully supports DDR4 buss speeds.

you might be right, not sure what the real world return would be. If it's only like 20% it's not worth it
I'm not maxing out at the moment, but I like speed

I honestly wouldn't bother. you're probably looking at 10% or like 500 points on a 6000 benchmark score.

Not worth it until the next gen come out.

I think winter is when the new intel architecture chips come out. The next line of broadwells are due anytime now, probably integrating ddr4 but I would wait until those skylabs; or just not upgrade at all.

If you upgrade to a 6 or 8 core CPU you may see far more than 10-20% performance increase depending on how well optimised the software you're using is for multi core.

There's always something new round the corner too.

Troodat

This is why i think you should wait raphie. Just getting a new processor will squeeze a little more out of the system but there's going to be a big change in overall system performance when DDR4 is fully integrated with new chips.

+1 to the above posters,

Wait for Skylake in Q3 for a much greater performance increase.
