Hasn't Reddit just become the alternative to every themed vBulletin discussion forum of the 2000's? I don't think it's as good a place to simply have a free flowing discussion, but it's definitely a better resource if you're there for just user generated information.

I'd imagine the Discogs forums are still a better alternative for classics discussion. Isn't Reddit mostly current and memetastic material.

Reddit is good but the problem with it lies in that if you're too late to a discussion practically nobody is going to have a chance to read what you have to say. Sure, it makes the quality/popular posts easier to find upon browsing at a quick glance but nobody is going to change their sort order/dig through a thread on the regular.

Reddit is good for "Lurking" , you know just reading and digesting information. Reddit is not so good for continuing a discussion as there is little to no continuity in the chat sections of the larger threads

Reddit is pretty shit for dance music discussion, very few people that know their stuff, even on the more underground boards.

I think public dance music discussion is kind of dying, this place obviously isn't what it used to be, other message boards as well, RA and DI killed their forums etc. .. Hell, even Berghain killed their (german only) forums earlier this year

From what I've noticed a lot of "scene talk" is now held on facebook from artist's private profiles on these really long facebook threads, so kind of "semi-public".

This is true. Scrolling through the responses to a Reddit post often turns up a handful of responses that are every bit as deserving of being bumped to the top as the ones that are already up there, but were just unfortunately submitted too late to get the attention they deserved. Fortunately, Reddit has enough of an active and knowledgable userbase that the best answer to your question is usually addressed by the top few posts (assuming that's why you're there); but the voting system gives you almost no incentive to scroll through beyond them, if it's a discussion you're interested in.
