easiest way would be to change your NIC card.
The cable modem normally just replicates the NIC card it's physically connected to.
You might want to check your ISP before you do that though.
Roger's Cable (in Canada) does authentication with your MAC address, so if you change it, you'll have to phone tech support or you won't get back online...

i'm pretty sure that your MAC address is hardwired into your NIC card. I don't think you can change it. like was said, the best way to change it would be to chance your NIC card.
I dont know much about hacking and stuff, but i know there are ways where you can masquarade your IP address, there are possibly programs where you can hid your MAC address. I don't know much tho. try posting in a computer related networking forum

The mac adress is an 6 bytes adress on the hardware card.
The first 3 digits are from the manufacturer and the last 3 are the clientnumber.
You can't change it (not sure) because it's on you card....

Ok, no need to change my mac adress. my modem has a traffic counter so i just need to reset so my ISP won't count anymore my downloads.
Anyone know how to reset that counter?
I read somewhere that it was the ARP Table and that there was an opensource called DOCSIS (or DOCSYS) that could do that..
anyone knows any info?

Just some info for you...
quote:

ARP
Displays and modifies the IP-to-Physical address translation tables used by address resolution protocol (ARP).

DOCSIS
docsis is a small program that can be used to generate binary configuration files for DOCSIS-compliant cable modems. DOCSIS stands for Data over Cable Service Interface Specification and is a standard developed by Cablelabs.

You can download the specifications from Cablelabs' website. The relevant specification is the Radio Frequency Interface Specification, which contains the bulk of the standard.

This program is useful for people/operators using DOCSIS Cable Modems that want to implement their own provisioning system, or for people testing/working with DOCSIS technology in general. Otherwise, there's nothing you can do with it. It is not destined to end-users

In other words, on the client end...you're SOL...

Read This! Interesting...

Some network cards do support reassignment of a MAC address...
Here's the scoop:
quote:

Q. How can I change a network adapter card's MAC address?

A. Each network card has a media access control (MAC) address that machines on local subnets use to talk to each other. These MAC addresses are usually burned into the units as part of the manufacturing process, but some network adapter cards have the ability to change the MAC address through software. If your network adapter card and driver support this feature, Windows 2000 can change it via its standard interface:

1. From the Start menu, select Settings, Network and Dial-Up Connections, right-click the LAN instance that uses the network adapter card you want to modify, and select Properties.
2. In the "Connect using:" section, under the name of the network adapter card, click Configure.
3. Select the Advanced tab.
4. Select Locally Administered Address.
5. Type the new MAC address in the Value section.
6. Click OK.

If "Locally Administered Address" isn't available as an option, your network adapter card or driver doesn't support MAC address alteration.

Oh yea...here's some more interesting reading on why you'd want to do this...
