This basically means that alot of teenagers will be adding to the some what stable unemployment rate of Australia. I have decided to get looking around for a job in web design. I have alot of experience in web design and have been designing for years now. Just wondering does anyone work for a web design company? what is a CV? what sort of wages do you get? do you work from the office or home? do you know of any jobs that are going around in the brisbane arena? thanks. And no i am not trying to plug own website around, so don't get angry TA-er's!

Yo VoiDet, you mentioned that you have some exprience in web design... is this real world commercial exprience? or exprience as in self-taught, hobby type? Cause the IT employment sector (from networks to graphics) is reall REALLY farked up right now... Competition for jobs is hectic now, you'll have about 200 people applying for the same job as you, i remember once, i applied for a IT support job, and the HR manager told me that there were 400 people fighting for it LOL

Do you have any industry certifcations? It would look very kool on your CV. In your case, Macromedia and Adobe certifications would be ideal, this would should that you OFFICIALLY know everything about these most used web-design programs. However, the courses/exams for these are quite expensive since most of them are done @ private training centres. I'm not sure if TAFE provides these yet.

When looking for jobs, try to use every single resource you can find. i.e. buying the SMH every Weds. and Sat. They have a job section called "MyCareer" which is very useful in all forms of employment. Browse online for jobs EVERYDAY! Websites such as:

www.seek.com.au
www.monster.com.au
www.mycareer.com.au
www.jobsearch.gov.au
www.jobnet.com.au
www.careerone.com.au

These sites also provide how to make your CV/resume look impressive, even IF you don't have any commercial qualifications.
And as usual, dress code and communication techniques are vital in interviews...

Its really tough right now, been like this for almost 2 years. So Good Luck, I'm sure you will do fine if you put in the effort!
hehe Sorry for the long post, got a bit carried away since i've been through this PAINFUL exprience before hehe

Hey thank you alot for that post.
So is a CV just like a resume? or is there some differences between a CV and a resume. As for my skills they are self taught, but i know i could easily excel in a HTML PHP and adobe courses.

Good luck to ya.... Ive been looking for a graphic design, WEb design job for almost a year. I got a diploma in Multimedia too... and some experience, including commercial.... The competition is too strong and not enough demand for comapanies to hire more people with less skills.

As always u gotta get the shitty job first, to help u get into the better one...

CV = curriculum vitae. = Resume, No difference, its just an abbreviation.

this is life, and it sucks... all the employers want min 2 years experience... for a ordinary wage...

a good starting wage for Web designer is about 30K and u can earn way about that given the experience and skills and demand.

So far it sounds more feesable to work on my own. As in start my own business. I could just seek clients with crappy sites and just build a client list from there. Do you find this sort of alternative more common than before because of the high compeition levels?

Yeah tell me about it. It's fucking depressing. I've been looking since I graduated from uni at the end of last year. I think I've sent out about 120 letters and all I get back is bad news. Don't know when the market's going to pick up.

As with the competition, Groovypants is right about how there is about 200 people going for one position. I recently went for a final round interview for a position and I am still waiting for a response.
All I can say is good luck Voidet cos you'll definitely need it. You might also consider contacting some agencies. Try to find some through your local Centrelink.
Don't feel too positive about them since they absolutely did sweet fuck all for me.
