Virus C

mates.....looking at picking up a Virus C - can get one for around 4-500 euro

had a Ti before but ended up using it like a soft synth and got fed up of it.

Want to give it another shot, was wondering if the FM is any use on it? From what I can see there is just an Amount knob so I'm assuming that Osc2 mods Osc1 or something like that

thanks

Virus C was really like the Technics 1210mk2 - they jsut fucking nailed it.

I can't remember too much about the FM on it, but really, you'd be hard pushed to own a C and not find it a workhorse for electronic music.

Many moons ago I was one of the very few qualified service techs for Access in the UK (I think there were 8 of us total lol) and the first few OS's were shitty, but once they sorted them out, they really were (and still are) one of the best VA's ever made.

Just make sure it has the latest OS on it and do a full factory reset.

From memory, FM on the Virus C is the same as the Virus TI. Yes, there is one FM knob and it assigns FM to Osc2, but you can use five different FM sources. There are also a ton of waveforms, including dozens of FM waveforms to choose from, not to mention ring mod, so your ability to get gritty or chimey sounding FM sounds by modulating one osc with another goes way beyond what you might expect from just looking at the front panel.

Q is nice for those weirder FM type sounds and FX, gets a bit harsh when the filter is opened

2X nice for pads but I find I make the same kinda sounding pads so id like to try the Virus again and give it another chance

I think they're pretty much identical in terms of FM, with the possible exception of the FM waveforms that are included?

tbh, I really didn't get the hype of the Ti. It didn't offer much more yet the number of people that sold their C's was riduclous (and many regretted it) due to the Ti bugs that took forever to sort out.

No regrets here, and I've owned three different TI models.

B sounds better. Everyone knows that. Just like the nord 2 sounds better than the 3 .
The b was breakthru virus.

The DD is even better. It has a big, round, bouncy sound to it. Personally, I think Access should've called it the Virus TIT (Total Integration Three).

but in all seriousness

the a - c use the same sound engine. So go for the C. I think the B is as good as you need for the Virus sound and you find them for 500$.

the nord 2 does sound better than the 3. DIfferent engine.
