gonna write lyrics or have them written for me

so, not all singers are lyricists and song writers, especially young singers who are new to ever recording tracks, making real songs, etc. the pop project lyrics are more important obviously, but I'm not making selema gomez here so I want them to sound decent. I'm not even really a traditional song writer myself since I make dance music which some wouldn't even call song writing, so lyrics are kinda.. idk.

but I have a feeling once we start and get a rhythm going it should be easier.

Most of the singers that I've worked with come from a pop/rock background and it's sorta funny how much difficulty they have with trance/EDM/etc music. They're so used to hearing the typical verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge structure that they get completely confused trying to figure out where the lyrics are supposed to go in club music. I've had a few singers try to fill an entire 8-minute trance track with vocals!

One thing I've found that works pretty well is to send them a short version of the guide track that only includes the parts that I want vocals for. In other words, I'll take out the long intros and outros and any other lengthy instrumental parts so that they can focus on just the parts where the vocals go, then I tell them the exact time where each part goes. I sometimes even keep some drums and bass going through the breakdown parts, because they often seem to get lost or confused about how to write lyrics for them.
