help with american slang

me and my friends like to watch the Jerry Springer show, and we have noticed that african american males often refer to each other as "dog", well we think that is what they say.

For example they would say something like "Yo, that is tight dog". Another example is if they dont know someones name they will call them dog as opposed to dude or mate

My question is what does it mean, is it good, bad or indifferent to be called a dog.

I always thought that when they talked about the 'dog' they meant that coach service/company the Greyhound or something???

I'd like to know what trailer trash is.

and why every sentence has to end with already, already.

that's your first mistake right there you are what you watch! no but seriously calling someone a dog can be good or bad. if you say to your friend "what's up dog" it's like saying, "what's up friend?" we just don't say "friend" because that sounds cheesy. or you can call someone a dog like if your boyfriend cheated on you and you are pissed at him, you call him a DOG because dogs will f*** anything with a pulse

You're kiddin', right? Okay, maybe not, so I'll humor you. "Dog" is merely an expression just like "dude", "man", "mate", "comrade", whatever. It's not derogatory, nor is it really complimentary. It's just an expression.

That's too funny. I'm not laughing at your expense, though. Just a funny interpretation.

I'd like to know what trailer trash is.

A lot of the caucasion lower class income families live in trailer homes here, which are conveniently located in small lots called, you guessed it, trailer parks. There's a stigma for living in such areas, due to things like lack of intelligence, inbreeding (that's pretty extreme, but not too unusual), etc. It's a stereotype for idiocy. Not always true, mind you, because I've had a couple of close friends come from trailer homes, and they are doing quite well now. But I think you get the picture.

Please keep your tv viewing to Jerry Springer as limited as possible. At least don't think that it's a good representation of American views. It's a shock value show, similar to say, Marilyn Manson being a shock value singer. It's entertainment in the worst way, and it grows quite old after a while (for me it took 10 min.).

Well, there are two meanings.

1.) Dog - Usually you call somebody this if they're slutty, a hoe, etc.

2.) Dawg - Used by wiggers and such (Wigger = somebody who trys to act as if they were black). I.e: Yo yo dawg dis mah crib son

you're on the right track but a little off...

if you call a girl a "dog"...it means she is not visually pleasing...hence you would not date a girl who looks like a dog...but it has nothing to do with her sexual behavior

if you call a friend a "dawg"...it means someone who you like to call a friend, hence they got it from the expression "a dog is a man's best friend", so you call your friends dawgs

as for "wiggers", well, they're not the only ones who use this word...i mean africans americans use it too

as for trailer trash...it is a way to negatively describe people who live in trailer homes in trailer parks. the majority of the people who live there cannot afford to buy a house, and therefore live in a building like thing that is dropped off by a semi-truck, and hence you get "trailer". the more common names are mobile homes. they are a little bigger than the normal size of cargo beds of a semi, most are fully functional(bathroom, kitchen, and etc.), and they do not have basements, or a second floor...that would make it a little hard for the towing by a truck aspect.

like it was said before, there is a stigma living in these areas. most people who live there are lower level income families, and dealing with poverty comes with it crime, lack of education, and etc., and that's where "trash" comes in to negatively describe those people.

but like also said before, not all trailer parks are full of trash. some trailer parks are full of retired senior citizens...like my grandparents who lived in a senior citizen trailer park in florida.

there, i hope you like your trailer trash info in a nut shell

Don't watch Jerry Springer. Half of it is fake, and the other half is pure american trash. The show just completely lost it.
