Although I do agree to a certain extent that they do deserve a pay rise, at the end of the day they are only trained manual workers.
In my area, firefighters aren't called out very frequently. Most of the time they are not working... £30,000 for someone who isn't working all the time is a bit much, in my opinion. There are many unemployed people in this country that would take up this job for £20,000 a year... People working in the NHS are working all the time, and I feel they are not getting paid enough for the work that they do...
Just because firefighters are in a position of importance, it doesn't give them the right to hold the country to ransom.
If they are successful in their strike action, what is to stop others doing the same? Doctors, Paramedics, Police.....?
