I've just discovered this artist after hearing about his name vagely in the past. He's just released all his work remastered on Bandcamp. And it sounds awesome.
From listening and reading the comments on discogs he sounds like someone as important to the budding dance scene in the 90s as Sven Vath, Jam & Spoon etc. And musically he's in the same league as the other founding fathers of the 90s yet don't hear about him much. What say you?

Funnily enough, my newest mix which I posted literally yesterday ends on a Speedy J track.
He's obviously a legend and was quite a big deal back in the early days of "IDM" when the term carried a slightly broader meaning than simply referring to Aphex Twin knock offs. The stuff he released on Warp in the early and mid 90s is absolutely gorgeous. Later on he became better known as a proponent of hard-as-nails techno. I think his legacy has suffered because it's been so hard to get hold of his old stuff. I'm not sure why but those first two albums have never been available on streaming platforms, even though other Warp material such as B12 is on Spotify and so forth. So it's nice to hear that his catalogue is now on Bandcamp.
Seriously, him holding out on uploading his back-catalogue for any sort of streaming has been quite the detriment to his 'legacy'. Dude was one of the top techno guys of the '90s, proving he could flirt with any style he so chose. That all kinda' petered out in the following decade, as he didn't seem keen on jumping on the mnml bandwagon. Looks like he's been more active in recent years tho'.

What the fuck is it with that idiot Zak McKraken constantly deleting his posts?
Anyway, I almost wrote in this thread that Speedy J doesn't seem to play much in the UK, but it's a good thing I didn't because he's just been announced as playing just down the road from me over in Liverpool in a couple of months time. Maybe he's on some career revival mission.
So I used my Bandcamp Fridays budget to buy his whole Bandcamp Catalog. Yes, including every EP. Only other artist I've done that with is Distant System.
Time will tell if it's worth the money spent, I guess.

50% off, which is average for most artist or label Bandcamp catalogs. Think Bandcamp scales by size, as I've seen a few massive catalogs offer 80% off.
